what is the typical ounces of formula he should be eating and how many hours apart?? I just recently upped my son's bottle to 8 ounces and he drinks most of it all the time but he has also puked twice since i raised the ounces. I can't start him on cereal as i tried and i can tell he is just not ready

Possibly just try 6 ounces. Burp him at 3 and then when he is finished and see how he does. Cereal isn't recommended until about 6 months. The only reason that i would recommend cereal before 6 months was if he was just acting like he wasn't getting full.

Both of my kids were taking between 6-7 ounces at 4 months old. Both of my kids were given cereal before the pediatricians recommended age, my son a little later then my daughter. My daughter was getting a small amount in her last bottle of the night before bed time, not enough to clog the bottle nipple, but enough to add some substance to the bottle. Dr.'s say giving the kids cereal too soon can encourage food allergies as they get older, and my pediatrician said that it wouldn't change their appetite or sleep schedule, but with BOTH my kids, they DID sleep longer at night and there was never any positive or negative affects to their weight---in otherwords, they didn't lose or gain! BUT, if you're feeding your son cereal and he's spitting up or throwing up from it, he is DEFINETLY not ready. Also, you should ONLY increase the amount of formula you feed your child if they are still actively eating once the bottle is finished, and then only increase it by an ounce at a time, overfeeding an infant WILL cause them to throw up!

As for the sleep schedule---He's a baby, as long as he's sleeping but still getting adequate physical activity, you shouldn't concern yourself too much with when or how often he is sleeping. Don't let daytime naps go over two hours if you can, and if your child is sleeping through the night, let him sleep. The doctors always say they should be awoken to eat, I disagree with this!

OK---I think I'm about out of advice on this one, if you need anything else, let me know!

That sounds about right for a 4 month old to be drinking like 6 to 8 ounces. I have given my children cereal at 6 weeks old. I would have started him on cereal a while ago. I would ask your dr. what is the right thing to do. All babies are different and have different tolerant levels. Its a learn as you go process. The usual timing is 4 hrs. apart when they are infants and by the time they are 4 months old it should be like every 6 hrs.

when my son was 4-5 months old i was feeding him 4-5 ozs formula with a couple tablespoons of cereal in it to thicken it just slightly. My mother told me to do that, wheni started that he started sleeping almost all night. He would take a bottle at 10:00 or 11:00 and sleep til 4:00. It was great.

Ask you doctor, but my guess is that that may be too much. Try 5 or 6 ounces. As far as hours goes I think it's like four or five, but it's really depends on the baby too. May be more or less. I know breast fed babies eat more in a day than bottle fed babies. Breast milk just goes right through them so it's like they have to constantly be fed.

My idea is to stop listening to all of these doctors who think they know how to feed babies. Try keeping the cereal thin and in a bottle. Later when the cereal gets thicker cut the nipple. also try a little bananas baby food in the cereal. Trust me if it taste good hell eat it. as far as throwing it up all babies will do that at first. Which means you just fed too much or too quickly . Try again add flavor and very little at first maybe 1oz or so. I hop that it works.

Try only giving him 4 ounces at a time...Make sure he burps in between. He is growing and hungry. The puking is from over eating. That is why I say make him burp in between.

4oz of formula, every 2 and half hours to 3 hours. Should be fine, that is what I did with my children when they were 4 months old, but every baby is different.
