In the area where I live, we don't have a lot of choices. If you go to the cities and get a phone number from there you can have almost anyone's service, but where I live the choices with a local number are Sprint or Alltel.
My company has a discount program set up with Sprint and when I was last purchasing a phone they had the ones with more features, so I chose Sprint.
When Cingular is available in the area, I'll be switching over.

I have Sprint as the signal is good in my area...however they have managed to sting me several times on my bill with what I believe to be misleading practices.
I downloaded song for $2.50 and they charged me $39 for the bps time used. I would have thought the $2.50 covered that but couldn't get them to take the charge off. I guess I best read the phone manual which is 1" thick from cover to cover!
I found out I can't get the photos from the camera, send text messages and many other features without extra monthly service starting at and extra $15/month plus my plan. I am disappointed in the company's policies and practices.
I finally had them take any access to Internet off so this would not happen again....and the very expensive song went "bye, bye" too.
I have had Alltel before and never had problems.

currently, i have a cingular prepaid account... i switched from t-mobile, due to HORRIBLE customer service, and even being billed repeatedly for charges which i did NOT incur - t-mobile even acknowledged that the charges wern't mine, credited me, and then continued to charge me, and would no longer credit me - a nightmare! ...anyway, i have had good luck with cingular, including MUCH better reception - even on the prepaid, which has less coverage than the contract coverage - and i will soon go to a cingular contract... my friend has verizon, and while he is ok with that, we have noticed that i still have much better reception and more coverage than he does... another friend has sprint, and same thing - i have the better reception and coverage...
of course, you need to consider the differences between GSM (cingular, t-mobile) and CDMA (verizon, sprint) - where do you want to use your phone? local, in remote areas, out of the country, etc., as well as what will be more available in the future, as these factors will affect the decision as to which technology to choose...

I have Cingular Pick Your Plan. I love it because I get the same amount of money ($56.02 for 400 minutes, unlimited nights and weekends) debited from my account on the same day every month. There are no extra charges and fees and any minutes that I have left rollover into the next month.

I have T-Mobile. But, when my contract expires in September, I am going to Verizon as they have some neat phones. But, my deal with T-Mobile is adequate to my needs. I am getting 300 minutes and unlimited weekends for about $30. That is hard to beat, and I am not sure Verizon can come close to matching that.
