Tanning in booths has been advertised as a safe tan, but actually changes your skin at a molecular level to make you 50% more likely to get melanoma. At the beach or outside without protection is just as bad, while with oil is worse. The best way to do it is wearing at least SPF 20 daily, and finding a self-tanner that works for you. You can get a great tan that way, with no cancer!

From March to July I tan (in a booth) about 3 times a week. Then just go to the beach for the rest of the summer. I always use sunscreen at the beach, but not in the booths. They say it can be just as dangerous but who knows? I'd use the self tanners, but they always rub off or stain, so there is really no alternative.

im a blak chick so any time i step in the sun i get a little darker, but as for those who sun a little i think you should do it moderately don't just sit in the sun go to a mall that requires walking or play a sport or the quickest way i get dark is swimming during high noon time when the sun is directly over head 30 mins to an hour of that and you will have some color on you

I went to tanning beds in my 20s. Now I'm in my 30s and I have had 4 basil cell carcenomas (cancer) removed. I guess I should have just been happy with my overly white, Irish/English skin.

Yeah I used to like tanning a lot but with knowing how bad the suns rays are and also how sunbeds are equally bad I now use a product called "Holiday skin" by Johnson &Johnson. I would highly recommened it!

i just started tanning. I love tanning. Its relaxing and it makes you look good! i think if its outside then you have less risk of getting cancer then if you tanned in a tanning bed.

me, personally try to avoid the tanning bed because of the possibility of skin cancer. As you know, prolong exposure to UV rays can cause malignant skin cancer so i would suggest not tanning. I use the sunless tanners it works good for me, maybe you should try that instead of the UV beds.
