Hi...I am a coin dealer in the Midwest. The $10 coin you describe would be a $10 Indian style gold piece. 1911 is a common date but could bring a better premium in very nice shape. I would need to obviously see the piece to ascertain its exact condition, but I can ballpark the RETAIL price (what a dealer would SELL it for) at anywhere from $460 for a used one (typical used condition) to $2000 or so for a mid grade Uncirculated one (no wear or injury, full luster, uncleaned). Of course, your piece may fall anywhere between those numbers depending on its exact condition. Wholesale (what a dealer would BUY it for) would run from $400-1800 in my estimation, again, based on condition. Remember, to bring the big money it basically has to be perfect and very few pieces survive in that condition, thus the high price.

If I had to guess, if your piece was a typical piece like I normally see in collections I buy, I'd peg it's value between $425- $500.

Hope this info helped you out.

You may want to find some local coin collecting shops who might appraise the coin...In addition you could find some catalogs on the web that may provide some values.
