I am not sure what you mean by "contingency plans". But, go online to McGraw-Hill Publishing, Primis Online section. Also, do a google search for publishing for more information beyond textbooks.

I don't know of any publishers who work on contingency. Usually it's an all or either situation --they publish, market, etc. or youself-publish and market. If you are looking at writing book to be used in your college class, you might think about self publishing. But if you are looking for a wide market, be very cautious as marketing and servicing your market can not only be time consuming but can also be expensive.
You might also want to check with your department head. There may be an ethical question involved in making it necessary for students to purchase a book you have written.

from which country, and what is your plan. different possibilities available. Few publishers will be gald to produce books if it's feasible.
