I have an email that I am trying to back track to see where it orginated from via the IP number. How do I do that? I need to see if the email was done locally or from someplace else in the state. Can anyone help me please?

Hi, you can trace any IP over the Internet using a free web-site service called Visual Route, it tells you from where it comes and it even shows you a map from your ip to that specific ip. Here is the link: http://visualroute.visualware.com/

Also if this is not enough type this google search: track ip and a whole list of sites will appear.

Hope this helps!

There are two very frequently used web tools to do that one is whois which returns what is in the general Internet registry about that specific IP address. Or you can use traceroute which also gives you the path to that specific IP address through which ever gateways you go through. Both those tools you can find for free by simply searching for them in google or Yahoo.
