Society is based on established norms, which may or may not be based on fact, religion, faith, or superstition. Science challenges our belief systems and makes people examine the workings of society. Sometimes society wins out and science and technology is set back hundreds of years. In the United States, with our relatively young culture, we have embraced technology to the point that our social lives are changing at a rapid pace, and norms are changing on a daily basis.
