it changes twice like it should ,trans does not slip,i was thinking it only has 90 hp and weighs 3665 pounds ,is that a factor

it is a 3speed vacuum system no electronic stuff

The Loayle had a 3spd automatic and some a 4speed automatic.I believe it was in 1990 that they eliminated the lock up torque converter in the 3speed automatic ,that was the year they went from the DL/GL to the loyale. They rev'd really high on the highway and you would think the thing was gonna detonate.Nothing you can do to change it.The only problems they had with those trans were(1)the vacumn valve on the side would go bad and the trans fluid would get sucked up in to engine,(2) the governor gear would wear out and sometimes damage the governor drive.

I am pretty sure it is actually a four speed with the fourth gear being a direct drive accomplished with an electronic clutch. It sounds to me as if you are now reaching fourth, probably because the electronic clutch has failed.

Yes. I had a Ford Fiesta that pushed almost 5000rpm at about 65. I thought it was going to explode. Just use synthetic oil since the rpm's are so high.

It sounds a little high but it is probably correct. Do you notice the vehicle change gears twice? Fluid level in transmission good?

No Overdrive? Is it AWD? The AWD models used a 4.11 gear which would explain that. Taller tires will help a little.
