Dont bother to check for duplication. there are millions of webpages scattered around the world and the probability of someone seeing both is almost zero.
Go ahead and host your webpage.

it's impossible to have an idea that isn't at least SIMILAR to yours. Maybe 15 years ago... but now there are pages that are beyond your imagination.

I'd say... Research it some... then put up your web page.

No harm, really, in duplication. Suppose theirs is down?

try searching for the meta head strings i.e. if you have an idea about weiner dogs search for common terms such as doxie, weiner dog, dacshund, dokel hund ....and the like if you cant find one right away then they either are not submitting their webpage to search engines or they are not very popular.

well, you cant possible duplicate the content... maybe the layout, but not the content. There are software out there have certain layout set up for users. so, it is not surprise you say similar layout of the web sites.

Best way I can think of is to do a search. If you can't find anything like what you are thinking chances are there is nothing or nothing any good.

just search on the likely keywords used by such a page.

think of the keywords you would type to find your own site, and search for what exists.

if it does, see if it responds well to the question, or if you could do better (very probable!).

then go! do your own....
