I would tell him straight out that with the increase in work, you need an increase in pay. Tell him what you expect to get and that you have another job offer that is willing to pay you that doing the same or similar work. He'll either pony up or not - and you already made the decision to leave. You already decided to go looking for work - so then do it, you already have an interview. And the thing is, unless you are looking at s/w engineer jobs, then you cannot compare what you would be making in that career with what you would be making as a cashier, etc... You will be worth that kind of money - once you finish school. Until then, consider other avenues. You could also see if you could get a part time job as customer service. Lots of companies will hire part time - and that sort of job usually pays anywhere between $10 - $15 per hour.
But if you already ARE an s/w engineer, than what the he** are you doing in a job as a cashier? You can't find a job part time somewhere? I agree, if you are far enough along to be earning your phd, then you should have the maturity to #1) get a better paying job, and #2) be a little more respectful of your employers - its not like you even gave the guy the option of giving you a raise. You just decided you didn't like it there and didn't show. that is not a good trait

I think if you're working on your PHD, you should have the maturity and level of responsibility required to say something like, "I'm sorry. I am not going to be coming back to work. I need to search for a job that offers more money (better hours, less stress, whatever your reason is)." I can't imagine just not going back to work, leaving my boss (however big a jerk), coworkers and customers in the lurch without any notice at all, but that's just me.
They call it work for a reason, but, if you have an opportunity to get a better job with better pay, of course you should to do that. Just make things right with your current - I mean ex? - employer.
Best of luck!

LOL! you gotta tell him that you quit if you dont want him to bug you.. but just take the job again if you need the money and just give another excuse why you cant show up when you get the 9 dollar an hour job.

If you don't want him to keep calling just say "I quit" to him. Otherwise it's going to take him a while to figure out you're not coming back.
If you're a S/W engineer, you can earn more than $9/hour bidding on small projects on the web. Not a lot more, but at least you'll also be making contacts in your field.

See why you need to just be honest? Tell the $6 man that now that you've been away you find it's best not to return due to other situations in your life.
Keep sending out resumes for engineering jobs - the longer you stay out of the field the harder it will be to get back in
good luck -

You said you QUIT, not just walked away.
Go for the $9 per hour job. From your writing (both questions) I'd say you are still on the booze you got from your previous job.
My advice: a) Sober up before your (s/w) job interview.
b) Stick to writing in "ones" and "zero's"

It feels like the back situation affected your potential to do your job, that's in all likelihood why the ADN theory she might desire to grant out that advice. i think of you're able to hire an lawyer to jot down the ADN a letter approximately her beside the point comments and insist that it on no account take place returned. this could value you approximately $a hundred, and it would be very effective. you will sense vindicated on account which you took action, and you gets some alleviation out of your anger. Then circulate on and proceed to seek for artwork. despite if she did no longer point out the back situation on your potential enterprise, the indisputable fact that she pronounced you have problems with multi-tasking and decision making is adequate for yet another organization to no longer grant you employment as a nurse. Now which you be attentive to the ADN is going to grant you a foul suggestion, you're able to desire to grant your self with protection and combat on your occupation. i choose to recommend which you're taking expert progression training via your state or throughout the national association on, you guessed it, multi-tasking and decision making. you will get some sort of written information once you finished them, and you will upload this on your resume and communicate it for the time of interviews if this ever comes up returned. This ADN might think of she's saving the international by utilising knocking you down, and you owe it to your self to return up struggling with. (you will locate an employment lawyer by utilising calling your state's Bar association, i.e., once you're in Illinois, lookup Illinois Bar association, and tell them you desire a referral to an employment lawyer.)

I definitley do not think that you should work for your old boss again. You will not get anywhere making 6 dollars an hour. Go for that interview and give it your best. But do not work for the liquor store again.
