E-Mail is inherently insecure. When using a web-based system, the logon is normally secured. Some systems switch to insecure access after the logon. There's nothing that you can do about that, other than switching to a provider that uses https for the full session.

Keep in mind that the e-mails themselves are sent across the internet in plain, unsecured format.

Using a POP3 or IMAP4 system, it is possible to encrypt outgoing e-mails. The recipient will need the necessary certs to decrypt your messages. Anything sent to you unencrypted cannot be secured in any way.
