Most of us care only for the material things in this world and not for our salvation. Some people will go very far just to aqquire wealth and riches, power and the desire of lust. Is there a way to avoid all the material things and focus only for something that is good? How can we avoid temptation and conquer them to the best of our abilities?

The best improvement of our soul is to give it to Someone. And that someone is Jesus. It's only through Him that we can turn away from all the evil desires and lusts of this world. If you look in the Bible at 2nd Corinthians chapter 5 versus 11-21 it shows that those who are in, or those who know Christ personally will inheret the Kingdom of God. But before we do that we must first grow spiritually or in our relationship with Him. I hope this helps.

By realizing that the true wealth & riches are not money & power...they are the simple things like people who love you, the friends you have, The small things that give you comfort, the peace of mind you get from knowing that you can live with yourself & look yourself in the mirror everyday & know you are a good person who is doing good in this world.

Who's salvation are you referring to? Seriously. Why do you care what other people value? I think you just want people to stop caring about material things and power, so that you-who has none of that and no means of obtaining any-will finally stop looking like a loser. And, you are trying to convince yourself that you don't need it and to stop wanting it...so you can stop feeling like a loser.
My recommendation: Embrace your desire.

By doing your duties without any expectations of rewards and returns. Whatever action you perform, even eating, breathing, sleeping, your daily tasks, do it as an offering to God.
