Possibly. It's much more likely that the asteroid belt is the parts of a planet that never ended up forming.

no there was never a planet btween them... that region comprises of planetesimals, that ve failed to form a complete planet.... the belt is more commonly known as asteroid belt

it could have been really huge, but then blew up to become the asteroid belt....maybe....just a theory.
