Not with an oil man like Bush in the Presidency. Gore for 2008! I hope he decides to run.

It would take a lot to "destroy" the world; however, if you mean will we destroy humanity, that's another question entirely. The secular world is about chaos, competition and survival with acts of kindness thrown in. Basically, Nature is as Nature does. Humans seem to have evolved as problem solving beings. Why else would we continue to make such huge messes out of things and spend ga'zillions of dollars and man power to resolve the messes. Big brains run amuck. Most humans are spiritual but intolerant of others beliefs making human beings short sighted and dangerous to ourselves. I doubt that we humans will consciously destroy the human race entirely. Mother Nature will take care of that, no differently than she did the dinasours. Species go extinct every day. One day, it'll be our turn either through disease or natural disaster, but life will go on in some form or another. Perhaps a better question may be, "What can I do each day to make my world a better place for myself and those people I care about while trying not to interfere negatively with the lives of others"?

We are "able" to do it now. We know a lot about the science of our world and are learning more every day. Some of what we learn tells us we have to change the way we do some very basic things: dispose of "garbage"; generate energy, transport people and stuff; grow food; ETC. But there are some very powerful business entities that are built on the old way of doing things. How do we motivate people to use their own personal power to make changes and eventually overwhelm "big bidniss" with a healthier way to treat the planet and each other? The answer is for each of us to do it in our own backyard, neighborhood, home place. Right where we are, examine how we use our local systems and how we could do it better, healthier. Then do it, and if anyone asks you why, tell 'em.

The answer is yes, if we really want to. We have the technology for cleaner fuels to power our cars and cities, yet change is slow. If we ran out of fossil fuel, everyone would scramble to invent and improve cleaner options. Since we don't have that much of a push, it will be slower. Education is the key. What if all the children in school now were educated on cleaner choices they could make now, and show them clearly the damage we are doing to our environment? Keep that message in front of them at school and at home, and the next generation will have a huge impact. Then throw in the clean environment bills we are trying to pass now, and get the adults on-board the clean movement, and the Earth would have a chance to do what it does best....fix itself. So don't buy anymore aerosol sprays. When hybrid cars become more affordable, buy one of those instead of an SUV. Reduce, reuse, recycle. It's possible. But it will require us to keep that message in front of everyone. Educate, educate, educate. For instance, at work or school if there was a recycling container specifically for aluminum cans, that would encourage people not to throw them in the regular trash can. Now let a classroom of children think of other ideas that they can implement at school and home. See the impact? I certainly don't want to debate with a 6 year old why I'm throwing my can in the trash instead of recycling it. Who would?

One can only hope & pray that we will wake up before it's too late. Unfortunately, greed and arrogance are still out there in full force...as long as people are greedy cause they want the land for whatever reason...development or minerals or fuels ...and are arrogant enough to think they have the "right" to be wherever they want to be regardless of the loss to wildlife & plants, we will continue to destroy the earth & all of it's resources. Sad isn't it?

Yes, and people are doing it now. Ever heard of an eco-villiage? They take it to the extreme but it works. Taking a page out of their book will help the environment alot if everybody did it.

We can do it but it will take each and every person, every state and country to take responsibility for there own actions.... Recognize the problems and deal with them..... Not sure nuclear power is the answer but sure beats fossil fuel emissions, air and water contamination... And what about the animals that give us methane gas ?
