I've never gone to morocco - although I LOVE the food. I would check with a local travel agent - seriously - they might be able to tell you a little about the customs, etc.... I would also check to see if there is a embassy around for them. Not as likely, but hey - worth going to and being able to talk with someone directly. They can also tell you what to expect. As far as clothing - I think that depends. I've heard of some countries being real strict with that sort of thing, but I've also heard that most countries don't bother when it comes to tourists. I don't think Morocco has those restrictions when it comes to clothing and covering your head and stuff. Have your friends ever been to Morocco? Or are they just assuming that it is an Arab country, and therefore full of dangerous terrorists? Not necessarily the truth. Check out the below websites and do some searches on the internet to get more information. From what I saw - it would be a wonderful trip.
However, you are meeting a stranger or someone you know? If its someone you have never met before, I would take a friend along. It is hard to say. It all depends on how well you know this "friend" you are meeting.

I sincerely hope you aren't that stupid and this is just a troll. In case you don't know, WHITE SLAVERY is alive and well in some parts of the world... AND THE AFRICAN COUNTRIES ARE THE WORST. If you go running off to meet some smooth talking guy in a country like Morocco then be sure you tell everyone you know and love GOOD BYE when you fly off to your new and wonderous life, because you will NEVER see them again.
The horror stories you have heard are probably TRUE...so believe them or, you can ignore them at your own peril.
God be with you... you're going to need all the help you can get.

Traveling to meet someone you don't know, in a country you've done no research on, doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Do you even know what your friend looks like? Are they suppose to meet you at the airport? If they don't, do you have a back-up plan involving a place to stay? If you haven't thought about any of these things, then I say go with your friends to Bulgaria. It is perfectly fine for females to travel alone, I've done it myself in the past, as long as you do it smartly. If you really want to go to Morocco, regardless of whether your friend meets you, then do some research first-starting with appropriate attire. Good luck.

you don't say much about this friend you never met - but personally i'd think twice about going on holiday with someone i'd never met before even to st. albans.
and then again i doubt morocco is especially dangerous (though you don't say which part of it you would visit) but it's a rather unusual holiday destination. the north african coast is very different in culture, food, attitudes, religion and language from anywhere else in europe. if you've never been out of scotland before isn't going to morocco going to be a very big jump all in one go?
bulgaria has a long tradition of being a holiday destination (especially for people from other central european countries). if you are with friends you will not feel as isolated as you might in morocco (being with someone you don't like in a country you don't know is very lonely) and bulgarians are more likely to be familiar with the idea of 'tourist' than north africans.
i certainly don't think you should be 'afraid' of going to morocco - i've lived in much stranger places. i just think you should try somewhere easier before you go into one of the world's more exotic holiday destinations.
(prague rocks).

You better listen to your friends who are telling you to be careful.
How can you call someone in Morocco a "friend" if you've never met them?
Don't travel alone, always go with someone especially if you have never been to a country before. I would stay away from places that treat westerners badly, why go there? With all the other places in the world to see that are safe, why go to a place that takes away your basic freedoms?
Make sure you are on your guard (make sure valuables are safe, don't wear jewlery, dress conservatively, always go with a friend). Don't go out much at night, never alone. Don't be overly trusting, you are a target as a woman, you have to understand that.
Bulgaria?

You are asking for trouble. If you really want to meet this person, make them come to Scotland so that you have freinds and family around in case something goes wrong or they turn out different from what they seem.

Morocco would be a cool place to go, but I don't think that I would travel there alone.

Don't go, dear. How about touring your native Scotland? I would love to come and see you and my native homeland (my greatgrandfather was born in Edinburg)
