I think it probably is. The wife of a best friend is probably always going to be a temptation because you have something in common fromt the start - you both care for her husband.
There is less chance of being caught because both of you know his movements. There will be more guilt than if the affair was with someone else because you are having to lie to him & he is not an anonymous person like in a "conventional"affair.

I think it is suspected more than we suspect. Don't know about it being more widespread because we can't find out a)how widespread it is or b)how much it is suspected.

I think it is more widespread that any of us think. I mean it is probably more easy to cheat, with your friend's wife because you know their schedule and when they are going to be home and when they will not be. I think it is more easy to cheat with a friends wife.

i am thinking no. i choose friends based on their personality. i chose my wife partly based on the same thing. my wife can't stand that my friends have the same or similar personality traits as her. i am completely different than my friends or my wife and that is what they both find attractive.

We will never know the answer to that. But speaking from experience I don't recommend it it causes nothing but hurt and upset.

i suspect more in "well off" circles of society
