Depends on the kids. That is why video games have a rating on them. If you buy a game that is appropraite for the child it doesn't effect them much. Some of us play these games to do what we can't do in real life. For instance I play GTA and go run over people and shoot people and it relieves stress of wanting to do it. Now mind you I don't really think about doing that to people but there are some stupid people that you wish would just disappear. So you play a game that allows you to do things like that. Some claim that video games have this horriable effect on kids. Well let me tell you I grew up when they were starting. I don't go around jumping on people's heads to see if coins will appear, as I would have been taught by Super Mario Bros. and I also would have learned from that to punch the celling hoping for a "coin bank." Oddly enough I didn't learn to do things like that. It's partly parents aren't paying enough attention to their kids now. They think that TV and video games are good tools for raising kids.

There have been numerous controlled studies done, one done over the course of 10 years, that show no relation between violent behavior and violent video games. In fact, several studies show a reverse corellation -- that playing violent video games is some kind of "outlet" for violent tendencies, resulting in less actual violent behavior from those who play than those who do not.

People who tend towards violent behavior do so whether they play video games or not. Playing the games doesn't increase their likelihood of being violent in real life.

It's not necessarily the games themselves, but the lack of parenting that comes along with it. Parents who let the TV and videogames babysit their children are just asking for problems. I think a child who can differentiate between fantasy and reality won't turn out bad because of a videogame. A child who has no parental supervision and is allowed to play violent video games, torture animals, do drugs, and run wild will be a problem later in life.

I am personally one who plays what u would probably consider violent games such as war games and sci-fi games. And I will say they are addicting, but it hasn't changed my mind to do crazy things like in those games. In fact, most the games i play, you have to be alert and ready for anything, which increases your senses, reaction time, and decision making process. So I personally don't think violent video games are a bad thing unless they control the individual, and make them utterly possessed by the game, which in my experience with gamers, rarely happens. Another thing, is that violent video games can sometimes, like in my case, relieve stress and relax me. I get stressed out easily, and by playing a game with my friends, I end up less angry and stressed out than when I started.

ON WHAT KELLY SAID--*below*

I will Honestly say, that my parents don't understand it, and think its somethin bad and dangerous, and they just get in my way and make me more angry.....so maybe if you talk to you parent, it would be ok, but i no most my friends, their parents dont really understand it and look at it like a curse, they just need to relax, or learn more about it I think. Mainly, if your a parent, give the kid the benefit of the doubt..

Those video games only affect those who do not have a moral backbone to support what the video games stimulate. For me, the video games don't do anything for or against me, but some people i know have gotten much more aggresive since playing. Then again, it falls back to upbringing and morality/chivraly. The world has become a dangerous place to people who don't backstab their friends.

No effect, people were violent well before video games- and violent people today are mostly that way because of poverty, culture, or lack of values.

I agree with KP. As long as the parents are there and help the kid differentiate, there won't be a problem. If the parents aren't there, say hello to the next Dahmer. (Look it up if you need to)

well, these can harm children. they can adopt what they can see on those video games. but if a parent will guide their children properly maybe playing video games was not that harmful.
