My friends were fine, most had a pretty good idea before I even knew. Some of my cousins said the same thing. My sister was incredible, very supportive and she had an idea too I think. My dad was awesome, said he doesn;t care. I'm his daughter he loves me and that's all that matters, that I am happy. My mom flipped out at first, said some mean stuff, then called me back a few hours later and apologzed (after my sister ripped into her and told her to get a grip).

The first person i came out to was my best friend, who happen to have a crush on me. Once i started telling people it became easier. But its not like i go out yelling it from the roof tops. I see it as a need to know basis. If anyone asks i just say yeah. Slowly my friends told more friends and those friends told family. I live in a small hick town, but i like it. My family could care less. There is so much more to being human than just a small fraction of being gay. I don't define myself as gay really. I see myself as a hard worker, single parent (not mine), brother, son, friend, chauffer, shoulder to cry on. Thats how my family sees me, why should i care what others see me as. Your defined by your actions sure, but to be judged just by one? no. Most people are in need of being accepted as gay. me i am so what, you either like me or you don't and if you don't i don't need to know you. I should be the least of everyones worries.

I didn't come out, but my aunt did after 21 years of marriage! Everyone in our family excepted it, it was difficult for her kids at first but they came around and i think that was more about the divorce that the being gay. At the end of the day we love and support her no-matter who she's attracted to and it doesn't change the fact that she's a wonderful person, plus her new girlfriend is ace:-) She's happy and that is all that matters to me!

My friends (being very open theatre people) had a "took you long enough" or "that's cool" response. The only family member I told was my mom and she doesn't believe me yet since I haven't shown any of the "signs" she thinks I should have had to show I'm not straight. My dad's side of the family is very traditional and conservative - so I am never planning on telling them of my sexual orientation.

They gave me huge problems when I first came out, that's why I came back in for a cpl of years. Which was torture! I recently came back out, and said to hell with everyone...but this time around I have been accepted.

i havent told them. im so very scared. my girlfriend's family found out and were ok with it. in fact they love me. my family will not be so ok with it and i think it will only hurt her feelings in the end cuz she might feel responsible for how my family treats me. and i will be hurt.
