Biblical reference: Methuselah was grandfather to Noah who lived to the ripe old age of 969 years, in the year of the Great Flood (no mention of whether he died in the flood itself or whether, as some biblical historians believe, his death foretold the coming of the flood). He fathered Lamech at age 187 or so, who went on to sire Noah a good while later. References to the old fellow appear throughout literature and popular culture, including the books of Robert Heinlein, several plays, the name of the oldest living tree (a sequoia, if I'm not mistaken), a song by the Smashing Pumpkins, and even the original series of Star Trek and the Simpsons (I believe it's an episode where Flanders starts handing out collectible Bible cards, and the Methuselah rookie card is the hot item in the pack)

The saying is "as old as Methuselah." Mathuselah was a man who lived to be 969 years old! That's older than any other recorded human being.

In the Bible, Methuselah was the oldest man in the world, recorded to have lived for 969 years. He lived before Noah, and was Adam's great-grandson.
So if someone is "as old as Methuselah," they are pretty old, indeed!
Good luck!

It's "as old as Methuselah" -- Methuselah is in the old testament of the bible, and there it states that he lived to be 969 years old. He supposedly fathered Enoch at 112 -- you go, old guy!
