I bought an Ipod Nano and the earplugs that came with it hurt my ears. I bought some better ones separately that feel great and stay in. They have the foam on them that you squeeze down right before putting them in your ears. The foam then expands to fit your ear canal perfectly and snugly.

WELL AS A MATTER OF FACT THEY ARE DAMAGING "IF" NOT USED PROPERLY, HERE'S A BIT OF INFO FOR YA!! The ear-bud-style headphones packaged with iPod and MP3 players can cause serious hearing loss, according to Dean Garstecki, a Northwestern University professor and audiologist. Ear-bud headphones, the type that rest inside the ear, can lead to permanent damage after just an hour of high-volume music in the 110-120 decibel range, equivalent to the noise level of a concert, Garstecki said.To minimize hearing loss, Garstecki recommended listening no more than an hour a day, switching to over-the-ear headphones, and dialing down the volume on pod's to "6" or lower. HOPE THAT HELPS!!

I have had problems with mine. The basic ones that come with your ipod are standard size. After a while my ears get a little sore but you just have to take them our of your ears for a little bit.
Best buy sells in-ear add ons for about $20. You just snap them right on top of your earbuds and they are much more comfortable. They also come in 3 different sizes so you can choose which ones work better for you. If you want actual noise cancelling in-ear buds you'll find some upwards of $100. Sony has some that come in their own case and also have an attachment in case you wanted to listen on an airplane (since they use 2 outlets).

YES. They hurt my ears but the most annoying thing about the ear buds is they do not stay in my ears. If I want to listen to my ipod for any length of time, I put a headband (stretchy kind) over my ears. I know I look like a dork, but I am home and I really don't care!!

There are several different alternatives to the regular circular ear buds that come with most personal audio equipment, and it really depends on your individual choice -- because people's ears are shaped differently, some work better than others for each person. There are squishy foam ones that are kind of like earplugs with little speakers in them; because they completely block your ear canal, they deliver the most sound to your eardrum, but some people complain they can hear the ocean *snicker* There are the kind that have a clip that wraps around the outside of your ear and holds a regular headphone-type padded speaker to the outside of your ear; these don't work for me, personally because I've got gi-normous ears and they don't make them big enough to keep from pinching. Some earbuds are made of soft rubber and are kind of like a skinny Hershey's kiss, designed to be shaped just like your ear canal, but if you've got non-standard shaped ears, they may or may not work for you. Finally, there's the old headphone standard, either the lighter foam-padded ones that press against the outside of your ear, or the old-school ones that completely encapsulate your ears (you still see them because DJ's use them a lot -- they block out the most outside noise of all types of headphones, allowing you to hear even in the loudest of environments.

Every set of headphones comes with its own set of annoyances. For some, regular headphones mess up their hair or are too big or too small for their heads. In the case of ear buds, some peoples ears are too small for them to fit properly and they'll slip out. A lot of people I know buy the kind that clip on your ears because they stay in place but some do complain, if the headphones are heavy, that they hurt the tops of the ears. hope that answers your question.

oi, yes. Those buds hurt my ears whenever I put them in, they are not designed to fit every person's ears and they definately were a pain in my ears. I bought a pair of sony ones that are white with blue on the ear bud. They fit into my ears really well, the sound is better, and it was only like $10

I apparently have funny shaped ears. I don't think they look weird or anything, but those little ear bud things just don't stay in and they kinda hurt, too. You can just use any other kind of headphones. Might I recommend the kind that wrap across the back of your head. I like those.

Ear buds, like headphones can damage your hearing only if they are turned up too loud. As to making them stay in comfortably, that's a little harder. Everyone's ears are shaped differently, so they cannot be made to fit well for every person that wants to use them. If they don't fit you well enough, consider going to the small, lightweight headsets that are now available for practically nothing at your local dollar mart. Good luck!
