People secretly envy what they hate.

I am white too, and I think this is a good question.

I think we are all racist to some extent, but as long as we are aware of this, things can only get better.

Thinking about questions like this can help awareness. You are right, it is bizarre that white people can be very racist and then want to look tanned. Double standards and denial.

Also maybe a sign that racism is born out of a fear of what is different. It would be easy for a white person to feel envious of black qualities - one of which is lovely tanned skin.

I guess all we can do is keep pointing it out to each other, and hope that we can at least be more aware of the pointlessness of hating someone because they have something we haven't. Instead we could focus on what we do have, and how we can work together for a better world.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to get on my soapbox!!!!

Racism is all over in all cultures. Not all white people getting tans are racists. Not all racist white people are going to try and get tans. This is a silly question.

Though, I think it's funny the whole tanning thing to begin with. I have a question in response: Why do MOST guys seem to find lighter color toned black women more attractive than darker tones
and then on the same note find darker toned white women more attractive? I think that would be a good question for ALL guys...lol.

I think I might post this.

Slag???

I dont know what you mean by that one...

But the reason we, (as white people) ty to get the best tan is so that we wont burn in the sun.
Though it shows that suntanning is bad for your skin, melanoma and all that skin cancer, so a lot of whites take to sun creme to protect thier skin. Getting the darkest tan, helps them so that they can cope witht the sun's rays and not get burned after the melenin kicks in to overdrive.

Black people have no trouble with this, but, they suffer from sickle cell anemia, which is hereditary in some blacks...

Now, slagging?, is that a term that inferes racism? If that is, some day it will be a thing of the past... When ten more generations die off, then there will not be anymore racism because it will just be a memory, as the "races" are being mixed up pretty good now, with whites marrying blacks, and the children from them are marrying whom ever they like and the yellows are intermarrying with all of us... I wish I could be around for that one... Just imagine it, no more racism.. Wonderful!

I wish you well..

I don't believe that white racist people do go for the darkest tans, its a bit difficult to do when they have a white sheet over their heads. I find it funny how it is always black people calling white people racist, yet the majority of racist people I have come across have been black or from an ethnic minority. They don't seem to be able to live along side white people. They feel that they have something to prove and the only way to do it is to go around raping, murdering and mugging white people. Not the way to go.

Why do some black singers have blonde hair? Why are all babies born white? How come you can't tell if the child of a First Nations and Chinese mix is one or the other? Come on people, when are we going to realize that all people bleed red blood. There is no color line anymore. We just make it an issue.

Racism in all forms or culture is Racism.Black, white, yellow, green it's still wrong. As a black man, when i see anyone from my race acting racist i let my feelings be known that it's wrong and if they cannot accept another culture or race, then they aren't fit enough for their own race and needs to change.

Don't matter what colour, class or creed you are,you should respect everyone's belief and nationality.Racism is wrong ALL over this world. So people start loving each other and see how much better this world will be.

I've often wondered this. Of course in the olden days you were considered "common" if you had the slightest look of being sunkissed, as this usually meant you worked outside doing menial tasks, the rich would shade themselves... perhaps this was the first form of prejudice against those with darker skins.

Personally, I hate all racists, they all should be lined up against a wall and shot!

The same reason perhaps that some black racist people go out and buy blue contact lenses or have blonde hair extensions, maybe we just all want to be alike in some ways.

I don't know enough racist white people for a good sampling. I'm sure there are plenty out there but I try to avoid them.
