I think most people say it was Sean Connery because he played Bond close to what the writer, Ian Fleming, envisioned: a man who was calculated and detached, a killing machine for Her Majesty's kingdom.
However, I prefer Brosnan because he brought a humanity to Bond that had been lacking otherwise. He made the character multi-dimensional, more than a cold-hearted misogynist spy. I think he hit his stride in The World Is Not Enough.
I always wonder what Bond would have been like if during Connery's reign the special effects would have been as advanced as they are now.
And, yes, I believe Roger Moore did a better job than a lot of people give him credit for, really. I love The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only. What can I say? I was a teen!
I hope Casino Royale works. I know Daniel Craig is a good actor, but he is not very handsome and Bond IS handsome, at least I expect him to be. We'll see.

Sean Connery is the best. Pierce Brosnan is excellent, however. Interestingly enough, Ian Flemming wanted Roger Moore to play James Bond, but he was unavailable. So Connery got the role.

Sir Sean Connery is without a doubt the best James Bond. Although, on a different note, my favorite Bond movie was GoldenEye. Which was Pierce Brosnan. Kinda funny huh?

Sir Sean Connery is the one and only James Bond. When you think of any Bond movies that is the name that usually comes to mind. He always did such a great job. Not to mention he is a very handsome man which I think that role should have,
