Do you think Democrats put Sen Robert Byrd of W. Virginia in charge of the committee opposing her nomination simply because he was a Grand Keagle in the KKK. Or does the incompetent, senile, racist have other redeeming qualites no one else knows about.

One little detail you left out "yep" (what eles is new) - Give us that breakdown of votes for the 64' Civil Rights Act. I know it will be embarrassing to have to say more Republicans voted for it than the racists democrats. However, a little of the "truth, whole truth, and nothing but the truth" might do you some good.

BeachBum - With your logic of basing your choice of candidate on one issue, had the supreme court voted in favor, where would that have left you? For example, shall we see if Clinton is "right" again since the Supreme court is going to reconsider it?

The Democrats will go to an length to try to stop anything the Republicans or the President wants to do.They never have a good reason or a solution just want to sit around and whine like a bunch of school girls.

People can change. I was a Republican in the 80s then after the Iran Contra scandal, I went independent.. voted for Perot twice. Now, I am a registered Democrat with completely different views.
When I look back and am honest with myself about the reasons I was a republican, I realize I was ignorant and uneducated to what each party really stood for. I had fallen for what I was being 'told' they stood for not what they really did.
So, after I decided to educate myself with 'truth' by researching things and instead of watching CNN, FOX NEWS, etc... I started watching CSPAN and PBS. When I started seeing what the individuals from each side were really saying out of their OWN mouths or the reasons they were voting for things explained by them and not some commentator on a news show telling me why, that is when I changed.
Example, Clinton vetoed the Partial Birth Abortion Bill. The news media only broadcasted that he did that and made him out to be a pro-abortion liberal. I then saw him on CSPAN saying he veteod it because it would never pass the supreme court as constitutional cuz he didn't protect hte life of the mother. Years later after Bush passed it, the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional for not protecting the life of the mother.... Clinton was right.
See, I wouldn't have known these things had I not educated myself allowing me to change.

No. Quote from wikipedia, "Byrd, however, made it clear at the time that he opposed Rice's nomination because of her role in the War in Iraq which he vehemently opposed. Byrd has not opposed other people of color that Bush has nominated in the past, voting for Secretary of Education Rod Paige and Secretary of State Colin Powell. The NAACP, the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization, awarded Byrd a 100% rating in its 108th Congressional score card, based on what they consider his pro-civil rights votes."
I'd say that he is so old that he grew up in a different time and in West Virginia, and has regretted his involvement with the KKK since the 1940's.

Maybe you should read up on Republican Strom Thurmond before casting stones.
And I quote: "I wanna tell you, ladies and gentlemen, that there's not enough troops in the army to force the Southern people to break down segregation and admit the nigra race into our theaters, into our swimming pools, into our homes, and into our churches."
"On September 16, 1964; Thurmond, increasingly at odds with the national Democratic party over racial integration switched his party affiliation, becoming a Republican. In 1964 South Carolina and other states of the Deep South, white segregationists supported Goldwater instead of Johnson, whose support of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and integration rankled the segregationists. Thurmond played an important role in South Carolina's support for Republican presidential candidates Barry Goldwater in 1964 and Richard Nixon in 1968."
Sorry for the copy and paste, but how do you like your crow? Grilled or fried?

I cannot fathom Robert KKK Byrd having any redeeming qualities. Other than the fact that he is ancient and will hopefully expire, er, retire soon.
