Scientifically, the basics for human body to function is the head, the heart and the abdomon. Yes science has created devises that allow these processes to continue to function, but we still can't live with out a heart, or a stomach let alone the brain.
Spiritually, if we are a creation of god, that is how he designed us. Even Science can't change that.
I had to write a paper in college. Just a short 2 pager answering a question. I can't remember it word for word but it went something like ... A two year old runs into the street, a bus is coming down the road, 2 women see this and run into the street to save the child. The first woman saves the child but gets ran over by the bus, the only intact and functioning part of her body is her head. The second woman tripped along the way and her head was demolished but the rest of her body was perfect. The doctors attached the first woman head with the second womans body. Whose soul does it have?
In the end I decided if their is a soul it must in some form exist in these 3 parts. and if science ever gets to the point where it can put one persons head on another persons body, it may still have a soul but that does not mean it is of either women, their is that whole breath of life thing.
Spiritually, everything is of him, and all is part of a greater plan we can't truly comprehend with the 10% of our brain we use...lol
In the end science and religion share one common thing, they truly don't KNOW, all each of us has is faith we are right.

To look at it from an atheist point of view, the existence of the soul is a religious concept. It has been debated since the beginning of mankind. It has never been proven nor disproven.
I personally don't believe it even exists. Humans are animals that have evolved higher brain functions only as a survivability trait. There is no such thing as a soul, heaven, or hell, except in the minds of those that are religious. Religion developed because of the refusal of people to accept that there is no higher purpose of mankind than to survive as a species. What I can't accept is that any entity powerful enough to create the universe could care one whit about anything as insignificant as this little speck of dust called by it's inhabitants, earth, or in any of the inhabitants of it. Religion is pure conceit , arrogance, and more about power than anything else. It is the most effective means ever devised to control the masses.

Well, the soul is holding the body, the body is not holding the soul! The soul cannot be contained within the body, it expands beyond the body. The soul is like air, it cannot be contained, and it never dies. The body does, but the soul never dies for one second. You are consumed by your soul. If you want to know what "feelings" are your soul, it is what your "heart" tells you, not your mind.

I would say the soul is in the mind just because that's where everything is felt.

i'd say your soul eminates from your center (which is located about 2inches below your bellybotton ) and actually surpasses in size your physical body. that is why you can feel people standing behind you when you cant see them)

We are souls, we don't have them. The Bible calls animals souls.
