Because gravity pulls equally in all directions.
As soon as the materials that the earth is made of began to gather together under self-gravity, the center pulled equally in all directions. As heat from friction and radioactivity made much of the early earth molten, gravity pulled it into the most efficient shape -- a sphere. Because of the earth's rotation and centrifugal force, it's not quite a perfect sphere -- it bulges a bit at the equator and is slightly flattened at the poles -- but it's simply gravity doing what it does naturally. It's why all large bodies are in the shape of a sphere.

because of gravity. Gravity is the answer to everything. A round earth allows all parts of the earth to be about the same distance from the center.

Didn't you know that the earth is flat. All you have to do to prove it is to go into extra dimensional space and you will see that the universe curves in on itself. Einstein postulated this. It is only a matter of prospective.

What do you actually mean by this? The Earth is not flat because it's (very roughly) spherical.
Or how do you mean how do we know it's not flat?

We wold be dead by now. Its because the rocks are not flat dude. They are round and earth is made out of rocks.

uhhh... the gravitational pull from the center of the earth pulls all the rocks around it as close as possible, so it could not be any other shape.

acutually it is round bc God made it that way. also as the underwater and over water vocanos erupt the surface around it spreads. and there are volcanos al around the earth.

if not for spinning around its axis at high speed and going round the sun (due to gravity), it would have been any odd shape including a flattened surface.
The answer to why is it spinning around its axis at high speed is another question.
