It could be a matter of low self-esteem, but it could just be this person's personality type. There is a book called "How to Deal With Annoying People", which is horrible title for a really good book. Like many other books, it breaks people down by personality type. My husband is an "amiable". Part of that is not feeling comfortable making decisions. But he has many great qualities that make up for it. The long and the short of it is this: we all have weaknesses. That doesn't mean we shouldn't work on improving our own weaknesses, but it does mean we ought to give others a break about theirs.

Acutually I think I would say just the opposite. Usually people who are laid back are the people that are very comfortable with themselves. Now just as with anything else, theres no blanket statement, meaning that doesn't apply to all laid back people. Some are laid back and chilled out because they are lazy. But alot of times its because they are as I said comfortable with themselves and in return comfortable with other people. But as far as making decsions, especially when it comes to eating out, just ask anyone, that is always the toughest decision to make. I don't know why. It doesn't matter who you are or who you're with, it always takes forever to decide where to eat out!

Not laid back OR chilled out... Just not a decision making person...
They need to get their act together and be more assertive...

I would think its rather a case of where the parents made most of that persons decisions for him/her when he/she were younger ending up with low self esteem and can't decide for themselves easilly. That is why you need to let your children make up their own minds.

I am telling you the god's honest truth. I am laid back, chilled and EXTREMELY lazy right now. Thank you for asking. People do not like to use the word "lazy" because they don't like REALITY.

you want a stupid answer that is true:
lazy person says it, they're lazy
a sincere person says it, then you have the rare person that rolls with the punches, doesn't make big deals out of things.
I had a perfect roommate once in college, super busy, effective. Nothing phased him, he was laid back.

like others have said it is just that they don't like to get uptight over things.... they like to just let things take their course and just go wiht the flow. i am just like that at work, and i am not lazy nor have low self-esteem but i don't like to let myself get worried about the simple things. i don't like to make decisions unless i absolutely have to... there is nothing wrong with this person they are perfectly normal

I would categorize myself as that........and what I personally mean is, the relationship doesnt have to mean all or nothing, there are other things to occupy my thoughts as well. The fact that you dont really get into something doesnt mean you completely lack a passion/motivation for it.

ladi back may just mean that they dont really care and dont want to get stressed about the little things.. i wouldnt say they had low self esteem.. they probably are confident that what ever happens happensfor a reason.. and are juts going to chill.. and when it comes to eating out .. they may juts be a pick eater.. thats to compeletly diffrent things lol
