First there are commonly two types of Canadian Geese, for simplicity lets call them the large ones and the smaller ones.

If you look at the geese flock, you will notice that in some flocks the geese are all larger and in some they are all smaller.

Now for male and female, in a given flock, the bigger ones are the males and the smaller ones with a tiny bit of smaller tail are the females. The males are usually the leaders and stay on the periphery and a bit aggressive too. The females tend to be agressive if they have babies around.

Males weigh 3.5–6.5 kg, (8–14 pounds ), and can be very aggressive in defending territory. The female looks virtually identical but is slightly lighter at 3–5.5 kg (7–12 pounds), and has a different honk.Adult geese are often seen leading their goslings in a line with one parent at the front, and the other at the back of the "parade". While protecting their young, parents often violently chase away nearby creatures, from small blackbirds to other geese, to humans that approach. However, geese may form groups of a number of goslings and a few adults, called crèches.
