We are thinking of moving down to South Florida. I live in CT, make about 40k a year ..I was wondering if the jobs are scarce down there for a business professional...and if so does the pay suck that much?

Florida is great....Miami area even better! Except for the obvious hurricane or 2...:)

I live in CT currently, but lived in South Florida for 13 years before coming back home to raise my small children. There is a huge difference between South FL and good ole CT! It took me 3 entire years to adjust to the difference. But my husband and I talk every day about when we will move back...the public school system is very over crowded and we want our children to get the best education they can possibly get. BUT we will return.

The weather is amazing! Don't let anyone tell you it is too HOT in the summer....it is actually hotter here in CT in the summer because of the humidity. In FL, especially South Florida, there is always an ocean breeze. It is very hot in Florida, but it is just as hot in CT....the main difference is that it is hotter longer in FL. But just like we do in the winter up here, in FL on those super hot days you go from air conditioned house to air conditioned car to air conditioned job...etc. It is hard getting used to wearing shorts and tank tops while you are singing Christmas carols and shopping with Santa ringing the Salvation Army bell. And it is very humorous when the native Floridians break out their sweaters and mittens and scarves when the temperature drops to a freezing 50 degrees. The weather is a definate PLUS if you enjoy sunshine and blue skies and big white fluffy clouds. It rains almost EVERY day for 20 minutes or so, usually around 4 or 5 pm to cool things off. It only brings out the bugs so bring your repellent!

The bugs are icky in FL! Mosquitos are the size of small air planes and literally leave bruises when the hit you (kidding, lol), and there are 2 kinds of insects that I never heard of until I moved....sugar ants are tiny, itty bitty ants that are attracted to everything and impossible to control unless you use an exterminator....they are a nuisance but that is it. And the toally disgusting sea lice, but if you don't like the ocean than that won't be a problem. I love to dive so I hate them but hey, you find remedies and they work....I guess.

I am not sure about the job situation for a business professional but I do know that South Florida is growing at a very fast rate! Real Estate is quite expensive, but the cost of living is not as much as good ole CT. You actually receive money in your paycheck and don't give the whole "kit and kaboodle" to Uncle Sam. The night life and entertainment in South Florida is amazing! The food is superior, Hollywood has taken a serious interest in South Beach....etc.

I could go on and on about FL vs CT as I lived it! Please, if you have any questions or concerns or if you think that I can help your transition in any way , feel free to email me! Click on my avatar and you can get my email address.

I love South Florida....let me know if I can help out in any way.

If you want a career in the Miami area look into the travel/tourism areas of business. There are also likely alot of opportunities in International trade in Miami. Not sure about the pay, but I do know the cost of living is much higher in Miami.
