Some of us prefer to keep our work life and our social/family life very seperate. I feel like they are private people and I resepct that.
Unless your workplace has some sort of formal social gatherings (formal like planned, not formal like tuxedos) like a bowling league or softball team, don't count on hanging around with these people. If you need to make new friends try joining some kind of social or volunteer group, or a local church.

There's no requirement that you have to be friends with the people you work with, just respectful enough to get the job done. Besides, keeping your personal life separate from work is a pretty smart thing to do.

It's fine people have their own lives and probably don't have room for other social relationships. Trying to juggle family, friends and other cultural activities you're like I'll leave my job business at the work place. Don't take it personal.

It is a very uncomfortable situation, we spend more time with the people at work, than we do with our family's. If you cannot have a friendly atmosphere to pass the time, then it can create an almost hostile working environment.

Isn't that why it is called "work?" You really aren't there to socialize. If you want to get to know your co-workers, meet them somewhere after work. Personally, I don't like to be friends with my co-workers either. A degree of professionalism needs to be maintained, otherwise people that think you are "friends" may take advantage of situations that they shouldn't.

Depends on the job, I worked as a telephone interviewer (surveys) and when we were on break the last thing any of us wanted to do was talk!!! Otherwise, yeah, that would make me feel crappy!

Its alright because its just a workplace and not a social hour. sometimes you find people at work that try to be your friend and then when something goes wrong, they want to turn on you and blame you.
