During a normal, unhurried natural birth, strong abs are of minimal importance. It is the uterine muscle that expells the baby. The abs need hardly work at all in many cases.
During a common, medicalized "Now PUSH, PUSH, PUSH!!!" for the count of ten birth, they probably help, but only because the body is working harder than it needs to. Especially if you've got an epidural and are resting on your bottom, effectively pushing the baby *against* gravity. Common enough, but not the way the human female was designed to give birth.
What strong abs WILL do for you is keep the uterus from dropping forward during your pregnancy. Not only will you look trimmer, you will probably suffer fewer back problems because the weight of the baby will be better distributed between your abs and your back muscles.

I don't think the abdominal muscles have much to do with pushing the baby from the stomach. They primarily contract, bending you in half. The muscles that will help you out in this effort to make birth easier are the muscles involved in vaginal contraction. These are the pubococcygeal or PC muscles. They attach to the pelvic bone and they hold your organs in and regulate the flow of urine. The internal muscles involved in bowel movement also play a role during child birth, I believe. Doctors often tell women to do "kegel exercises" just while sitting in traffic, or doing anything really. The strengthening of this muscle is primarily what might help with the "pushing" that is voluntary during child birth. If you start doing them early they will really help after childbirth. Congratulations, and good luck!

:) The better shape you're in, the better (usually) your delivery will go. Everyone is different, but having muscle tone helps. I'm not sure if stronger ab muscles will actually help PUSH the baby out...I'm not sure it can be speeded up any faster than that baby wants to go. But if you had NO muscles I would think that may slow it down.

Your ab muscles have been stretched to their limit....they won't be much help in pushing the baby out.
It is a different set of muscles that will push the baby out. The same type of muscles that you use to control your bowels and urinary tract.
Your body knows what to do...just trust it...

that's crucial that there be analyze executed in this significantly-considerable remember. i trust that the money could come from the international area Station (they don't quite choose a clean micrograv lavatory. they could be able to bypass back to getting in baggies like the former days) and from baby's maximum cancers analyze. would I recommend that direct muscle-to-muscle wrestling competitions will be a thanks to assemble the perfect information? Staged, possibly, at tropical hotels? i'm available as a analyze difficulty.

i don't really think there is any way of actually speeding up your delivery (at least that's what my obgyn said) but having strong ab muscles will help with the delivery. most likely be able to push alot harder and longer.. but anyways congrats.. hope you have a good and heathly delivery also good luck with your little one..
