That they will make you quit? Don't they know that I (you) already know all the dangers?

I agree. It's usually the ex smokers too, in my experience.
Each to their own, I say.
I must admit though, I don't smoke around non smokers, especially my Son.

First off I doubt you do know all of the dangers, even if you have been paying attention to the TV ads. There are a ton of dangers than never get mentioned - all directly or indirectly related to smoking.
As a medical provider I often see the ravages of what years of smoking has done to people. The problem is that if you are LUCKY you have a big heart attack and die. More likely is that you will get heart disease, or bladder cancer, or breast cancer, or emphysema, or have chronic back pain (all have higher incidences in smokers than nonsmokers). Each of those maim you. Allow you to live a miserable existance, dependent on medication, or months of chemo, or others to help you take care of yourself - not independent and gasping for breath - a very nice retirement picture.
You know that older person who rides the motorized cart and needs an O2 tank to go shopping? That most assuredly is what your future holds. Now who in their right mind would let another person do that to themselves?? It feels like a duty to contribute to helping them stop. It escapes all reason why when faced with irrefutable facts, someone would still persist in wanting to smoke.
I sincerely hope I never have to tell another 50 year old that they have terminal lung cancer and it is likely they will die in less than six months. (She died in three. She said "I always thought I could just have a surgery and that would cure me." Guess not.)
So people say all kinds of things - "After 30 years how am I supposed to stop now?" or "I have been smoking for 10 years, I have time." Well bullsh*t to both of those statements. You need to try to stop now. It is the single best thing you can do to improve your health. (Read that prior sentence a couple times)
If you want to know why we are so interested in your quitting, it is the same reason we want people to wear motorcycle helmets. When you have these big medical events happen (and you will), they will be costly (open heart surgery more than $50,000, for instance). Almost certainly a lot of that will be passed on to me and everyone else. Even if you do have great insurance, the insurance premiums go up to cover the costs of your care! Alternatively, the costs of carrying you get spread out over a large group through government programs or are eaten by the hospital which recoups their costs by raising prices to everyone.
So in sum: I hope people harass you until your face turns blue. The more you don't like it, the happier I am. Perhaps finally you will do what it takes to stop. Even though you may not care about the eventual outcome, we all have an interest in your health because it costs us so much. Got it? Alright...
Good luck.

For some odd reason, non smokers (and some smokers, ironically...must be their guilt) feel it is their DUTY to tell the whole world how bad smoking is. Most smokers already know how bad it is either because they experience problems from it or it has been beat over their heads with PSA's, friends, family, perfect strangers (VERY RUDE strangers).
Most smokers I know ask if non smokers in the group mind. Most non smokers will lie and say, "No, it doesn't bother me", knowing full well they mind and are afraid you might get to kicking their a$$ for saying "I mind" or "Please don't". They fear your craving and withdrawl.
Cigarette smoking is one of the hardest addictions to stop and considered worse than heroin or crack addiction. REAL, UNADULTERATED tobacco is actually medicinal and has been used for centuries to help individuals in all kinds of ways. In our society, you can thank the big cig corps for making tobacco such a dangerous drug. If real tobacco were more readily available to the public, I'm betting you would see less addicts and more medicinal users. The use of tobacco as a calming agent, laxative, or appetite suppressant would mean less cigarette sales and fewer big tobacco corporation lobbyists pestering the government. Without them, how would we fund things like education without all those smokers giving their "two cents" to taxes?
Next time someone feels they must say something to you about it when you light up, tell them, "I already know the dangers, but I'm supporting my local school system so they can keep their D.A.R.E. program." See what they have to say after that.

I do that, always saying that's bad and all but smokers are SO selfish. Do you know how mych influence you have on someone's health when you're smoking in front of them. That smoke is harming them more then it's harming you. And everybody should annoy them with the stupid facts just because maybe that will help. And even if 1 out of 100 quits becaause of that, mission is acomplished!

Nonsmokers are much more sensitive to cigarette smoke than most smokers realize. When I am in a restaurant in th Non-Smoking section close to the smoking section, I can tell when a single person lights a cigarette.
As for being lectured to about health risks, I agree with you that they are wasting their breath. Most adults now realize the risks that go with smoking.

Its so hard to tell you why, when you are already so dead set on killing yourself. Perhaps when enough people, ads etc tell you HOW bad it is for you, you'll get tired of it all, and JUST QUIT! When you join the ranks of non-smokers and decide you want to live longer and not follow your crowd of friends you'll live a much happier, cleaner life.
Just wait til you don't wanna go to the club with your friends cuz you know you're gonna smell horrible the day after! Here's to a longer life where you can breathe and smell good! *clink*!
We'll leave the light on for ya!!

Well if you know the badness of smoking why do u smoke? And i have a question for you, why do you think the ppl are telling you not to smoke? Its beceuse they care about you, and dont want you to die, because your special to them. If you have kids how do you think they feel? Eh? Go on soem site and see what cigaretts contain in them. If you dont want to hear people saying stuff about it. I wont push like everyone else, its up to you. You have two choises. Life or Death? I agree life would be easier!

If someone mentions that as you're starting to light a cigarette, then it's a not so subtle request that you stop lighting it before you start.
Nonsmokers don't particuarlly care for being around people who are smoking, especially if they're stuck being near you for some reason.
