If there is any indication that the baby is under stress, they may even want to do a c-section. Some doctors will induce at 1 week past the due date, put some prefer to wait. Generally, two weeks after the due date is the furthest they will let you go. Trust your doctor on this one. They have had a lot of experience and their interest is in helping you have a healthy baby. Don't worry, but have a conversation with your baby about how it's really time now, so let's get going.

The non-stress test is to make sure everything is okay. I had two and they still made me wait almost 2 weeks after my due date (which they had off by another two weeks but didn't believe me; they said I was probably trying to cover up an affair). My last one was on a Friday and they said come back Monday to be induced. Over the weekend, my son had a bowel movement and got an infection from. He was 10 lbs 4 oz when he was born and had some pretty serious problems being a month overdue. I urge you to beg your doctor to induce you now! I'm scheduling a c-section with the baby I'm pregnant with now, I won't go through all of that again.

If you are already overdue and the baby is in stress, they will most likely induce or talk C-section.
If you the baby is happy and not in stress, it will probably be up to your doctor and you to make a decision about what you want to do.

Just from my personal experience. If you doctor feels the baby should be more active and decides that he does not like the non-stress test reading, then yes he will induce to get the baby out so they can determine if there is something wrong with the baby and begin treatment ASAP.

if the nonstress test comes back negative- meaing the baby is not moving enough or the heartrate fluxuates- then you will likey be induced.

If you pass, are not having contractions, and the baby is moving and the heartbeat is stable, the chances are very unlikely to be induced.

I wish you the best of luck. I hated the end of my pregnancy!! I told them I couldnt walk and wanted a cane and I was scheduled for a c section 3 days later.

my docter always said if you go more than 1 week of your due date they wont let you keep waiting so it is possible that they will enduce you if you dont go into labor soon
with all 4 pregnancys i was enduced but with my 1st the fluid was low and if they would of waited then i would of lost him
2nd i had an infection going that would kill the baby (placenta prevea i think)
3rd my water broke i got to 4 and stoped dilateing
4th child got to 4 and stoped again only this time the water didnt brake

If you don't go into labor soon they will definitely induce you. Many women have to be induced especially if it is your first child. Good luck and congrats!!

Yes, it happened to me. It was about two weeks before my due date, and wasn't feeling much fetal movement. I called my dr. who told me to go to the hospital for a NST. They did it, and found that when I was having contractions (not real ones...just Braxton Hicks contractions) it was putting my baby in distress and his heart rate was dropping. They performed a c-section about 45 minutes later.
