I'd most likely say the WWW still. Though many might not consider it as a service, it plunges us heads-on into the maze of evolutionary e-quotient so to speak.

I would have to go with Wikipedia. By opening up the encyclopedia to the world, you now get a lot of information about a wide variety of subjects you'd never find in the World Book. Sometimes the information is suspect, but usually it's a great place to start research. A good list of sites is below.

I think Web 2.0 is such a fad though, most of it has been available for years now.
