There is a reference in the holy books of both Christianity and the Jews, that a Messiah is expected. Is there a record in the holy books as to how we recognise him when he appears?? I don't know whether there is a similar reference in the Islamic faith. In Hindu faith there is a reference that just like, SriRam and Sri Krishna, the Lord will take birth on this Earth again and tentative name Kalki is given. .... The crux of the matter is how do we recognise Him, with so many good people around? Don't tell me that we have to wait for another crucifixion!! If mankind waits for another crucifixion, mankind does not deserve a Messiah!

First, the Christians don't believe in the birth of another Messiah. Jesus was the Messiah and he will come some day to take us from this world, not to be born to teach us again the things he has already taught.

The Jews are still waiting for the Messiah to come. There are over 300 prophesies (scattered throughout the Old Testament) that the someone would need to fulfill to be shown as the Messiah. A statistician took 8 of the 300 that a person would have no control over (like his birth place & time, his betrayal, his burial, not having a single bone broken, etc.) and figured the odds of one person fulfilling all 8 would be 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000. Jesus already fulfilled all of them, so the Jews have missed the boat on this one.

Lastly, we called to have a personal relationship with God and Christ and to become Christ-like. It is impossible for us to become our own Messiahs for man has sin. Being Christ-like is the holding of an ideal, but also realizing that we can not do it ourselves. As it states in the scriptures, "For it is by faith that your are saved, not by works lest any man should boast."

According to Islam messiah already arrived and passed away. He is prophet Mohammed through whom Allah the almighty gave the holy Quran to mankind. The followers of prophet Momammed called Muslims and their relegion is Islam. The holy Quran where it is written that prophet mohammed is the last prophet and no one will come again as messiah. The Quran also testify that Adam & Eve were the first couple of mankind, Abraham and his sons, Musa and Jesus- all were prophets who showed right way for salvation of mankind.
Allah the almighty is one and supreme. No one gave birth to him and he did not gave birth to anybody i.e. he has no parents, sons & daughters. He is endless, shapeless and no body can see him.

He is not coming again to be crucified, he is just coming to teach, if he does come in flesh. No crosses this time.
Adam in the beginning was as perfect as the Messiah in the beginning according to the biblical symbolic narrative. The Messiah comes to teach men how to grow towards [and become] Messiahs and in the end the world becomes full of Messiahs that it is like the Garden of Eden and Adam and Eve are back in place. That's perfection perfect--Messiah.

That is a very good question. In modern times it is fashion that someone calls himself the Messiah, avatar, incarnation of God, son of God or whatever divinity without having the qualifications.
This is become so common place that every ordinary man who possesses some mystic powers is able to delude the ignorant people in thinking that he is God or something like that. Therefore, as you mention, one should reffer to the holy books where there is exact description of the charachteristics of the Messiah, God, or son of God who will appear and his mission is likewise given. This is called an "avatar" or "one who descends". His features are described such as time and place of appearance, characteristics of His appearance, His mission and extraordinary activities. So, one should not accept someone as God just because he shows some tricks. If one is actually incarnation of God He should prove that.

The Messiah already has been born He is Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior and only Begotten Son of God, Third person in the Holy Trinity. When He returns in Glory at the second coming, I don't think we will need to recognize Him, we will just know.

Jesus Christ has already come and will come again. Jesus says in the King James Bible, "I come not to condemn the World but to save it." The second coming of Christ is imminent. Jesus will be coming through the clouds and at his coming he will rapture his church. Christians will be caught up in the air to ever be with the Lord forever and all those "left behind" will suffer the tribulation. The tribulation will last 7 years and trouble will be on the earth as never before. False prophets will come, as in the Anti-Christ, pray, accept Christ as your Lord and Savior and you will have nothing to fear. In John 16:33 Jesus says "In the World ye shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the World."

As Christians we believe that the Messiah (Christ) will come in all His glory, when He returns. He will show to the world who He is. "His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire" Revelations 1:14
Read the book of Revelations. "Trumpets will sound," the world will know He is Christ. He's not going to be a carpenter, He is going to appeared as King. Everyone will know who He is.
Again Read the book of Revelation, its cool, and if anything it will be a good action flick.

Stop waiting and looking for a messiah, people have been waiting for thousands of years. If or when a messiah shows up he/she might just say to you," why were you waiting around for me". "Do something good already would yah, sheesh"
