The movie was kept exactly like the book -- which was refreshing to say the least...

That's the whole problem. A lot of people seem to be incapable of realizing that it is just a story. Too many people take it too seriously.

It is just a story, but it's based in fact. Opus Dei and its practices, for example, (corporal mortification and use of silices etc.) are real. There are more facts but I can't remember them (will find them for you if you like). The point is that Dan Brown created a fictional story around facts, adding whatever he needed for it to sound good.

It's just like the Bible when you think about it; there's no way of proving it's more than just a bunch of stories written two thousand years ago, but I've heard Christians defend the Bible's validity by saying that there are historical places/figures mentioned in it. Regardless of whether the Bible is true or just an elaborate tale of God smiting man over and over, millions of people accept it as God's word in faith.

The Da Vinci Code presents an old theory in a new, almost seductive light and its fame (or infamy) is largely brought about by the hoo-hah religious people have created by holding seminars exposing the "lies" in the book to fortify the faith of followers.

If people choose to believe the theory that Jesus married Mary Magdalene, well, good for them, I guess. Personally, if I were a Christian and the story proved to be true, it would be a great example of being able to juggle a marriage and kids while still making time for the Lord's work.

The DA vinci code is much more than a story, its about questioning your own belief and looking too see if they are true. the reason people oppose to it is because they don't have the tolerance to accept it either as the truth or as a story! it was banned in various countries when most of the people didn't even know what the story was about this is what Dan brown was trying to say in the book that do we really follow a blind belief? and by this movie and books getting banned in various countries it seems like we do and we don't have the tolerance to accept things

Christian's seem too over-protective of their beliefs. If there is some truth to the story if I was a Christian I would want to know my beliefs were founded on misconceptions. I think they're too afraid to face the truth as, without their faith, they would have to face the reality that there's this life and nothing more. Why is that so scary? I love life and once it's over, it's over. If you need forgiveness and god's holy love, then you're missing something essential in the first place

Phew!

By the way, I disagree. I thought the film was terrible. Tom Hanks was under-acting and seemed totally bored with the whole thing

It isn't just a story when it takes the key people and concepts of a person's faith and twists them, even fictionally, into something that is degrading and offensive to the people who hold that faith. Would an author today dare to create a similar story about Muhammed? I think not. The DaVinci Code is a veiled attack on Christians, but especially Catholics, around the world.

I'm not sure what the big deal is, you're right its a book/movie. I keep hearing how people lose their faith over it and personally I think if your faith is that weak you may not have believed at all and was just going through the motions. Faith is faith and if its based on what is popular at the time or on anything Hollyweird has to say about it....you might want to rethink your beliefs.

I read the book, it was pretty good but it was fiction.

that may be but it refers to a past you and i have not seen , a past that may or may not be, full of mysteries. It alludes to certain aspects of christian faith which till now had been considered unquestionable , so ... telling otherwise and also giving proof , makes one question his/her faith. it all depends on how strong your faith is ,in the end. The book or the movie isnt questioning the existence of god.. ..
i must appreciate the courage the author had to bring out such a book ,that questions, before anyone ,his own faith.
i also would like to appreciate the christian public in general who are tolerant enough to understand that relegion is something which comes from the heart and is pure and fanatacism has no place in it..
in this insane world torn apart by relgious fanatics , u provide hope..

It is a story defying most accepted religious beliefs. Any time there is controversy among religion there will be people to protest. I think that most of these people that are not open minded to different ideas just have nothing better to do!

theology, religion, allegories and ambiguities, relative and absolute truths, (tools to govern unadept psychae) and other sciences(knowledges) i.e. math, chem, cosmos etc... are the denoument of the one, da vinci utilized these as were necessary during his age. faith is the offspring of wisdom, and wisdom a quality of the weak, we are all weak so to speak, insobeing weak, we question, hence, controversy.

yes it is a story that too fictonal but has overtly religious tones that could easily hurt feelings of a deligent follower because it might shake the very root of the belief they follow who have a tendency to glorify their religion.for example i wouldnt like the trifiling of a disbeliever in italy daring to put the picture of hindu god ram on a bikini neither would he like if i put the picture of virgin mary on a condom.
