depending on the reasons for leave. if in the u.s., and you are claiming leaven for reasons that fall under FMLA or the Family Medical Leave Act where you are allowed up to 12 weeks of paid/unpaid leave to care for a sick family member or bonding with a newborn or newly-adopted child, and still be assured of employment when you return, provided you don't go above the alloted time of 12 weeks.
if you are on short-term disability, you are allowed time as dictated by your company policies.
if on vacation, obviously, only until your vacation days run out. if on leave previously approved by your management for purposes of study, or other reasons, you should be allowed to go back to work and keep your employment with them.
obviously, if you are AWOL, sorry - i think they will have grounds to fire/separate you then. if on suspension for violation of company policies, sorry, again, but your chances may be slim...

Redundant - needlessly repetitive
Don't think you meant to use that word. Will you be made "needlessly repetitive during that time..."?
Oh you British! I just found another definition for this word! Leave it to you! sorry....
chiefly British : no longer needed for a job and hence laid off

No, not if you have been granted leave. But safeguard yourself by getting everything in writing.
