Can butterfly weed be successfully transplanted if you get the entire taproot?

yes, just be sure to keep it well watered until is root system becomes reestablished

I hope the first two answers are correct because I have done just that. The plant has all wilted but I am keeping it watered. Even if the whole plant dies back I am hoping that it will come up again from the root. It takes them forever to bloom from seed.

I have done it. Prepare the soil properly, pamper it and it's no big deal.
