Oh my! I love this question. Finally, anoda person that thinks like i do. Those bastards just think they have the right to be nosy when adn how they like. They come up with stuff like the manifest destiny and monroe doctrine to justify their interfernce and everybody just accepts it and acts a fool.
I mean, what do they know? Who gave themthe right. They're the most selfish race i've eva come accross, it's all about them and their interests. American Trade, the American way of life, American ideals are the only reason to exist as far as they are concerned. It's just rubbing it in ur face that bcos they have the military and financial know how, they she be the world's police.
Not to talk of their hypocrisy. They're sayin one thing 2day and doin the opposite 2moro. I think all the corruption in the world 2day is thanks 2 the USA's innovation (well, not exactly, man has always been dubious).
But it's just a pain in the ***. They get to call the shots all the time, it's always their terms that shd be obeyed. It's really annoyin.
Their history of foreign policy is entirely based on them seeing themselves as a world power and therefore defender of all; but the truth is they defend no one but themselves.
It's always been selfish motives to make their name. The American government will kill u if it will bring their country glory or respect, it's all they care about.
They're good at everything and nothing cos while they build their reputation as defender of all, they loose the support if the ppl they're supposed 2 be protecting. That's what happened in the Korean war and vietnam and gulf warsl, they're so blinded by what they want that they 4get what is expected.
And the most annoyin part is that the world just lets them have it. It annoys mi badly.

How interesting that "Americans" have become a race according to some of the answers on the page. We are all races here and justly proud of our achievements in 200 short years.
Because we have faulty, shortsighted leaders in this century we are getting maligned from all sides of the world. Perhaps the questioner has been offended by some ugly Americans and wishes to strike out at the rest of us. We are a smart , generous people and we like football-- we'll have better teams in the future. I'm a fan of Brazil and Mexico.

I'm not sure that America does believe it's the best at everything but, seeing as it IS the best at so many things, could you really blame it for thinking it was best at everything ?
In just a couple of centuries it has gone from nothing to being a world empire. It has successfully exported itself - it's culture, values, and ideals - throughout the world and established itself as a liberal nation that prizes the freedom of it's citizens above all else.
Of course you may argue about the extent to which American citizens are 'free' but my point is this - no one gets arrested in the US simply for practising his or her religion, provided they aren't hurting anyone. Wouldn't you be proud of living in a country that guarantees that basic right for all it's citizens ? Not everyone around the world enjoys this 'priviledge'.
Which other nation has put men on the moon or led the way in so many other fields of technological advancement ? Whose built the best cities ? Who has armed forces that could rival the US ? Who else has a homeland so diverse, from snowcapped mountains to tropical wetland to barren desert to palm-lined beaches ? Where did r'n'b come from ?
None of these things 'make' a country great (you may think exactly the opposite) and you and I could both reel off lists of the things that are wrong with America but that's not the point. Americans love their country for whatever reason they choose and they're taught to be proud of themselves and to be winners.
Come on, any nation that holds a national spelling contest for schoolchildren has to be just looking for a reason to celebrate achievement. Isn't that a good thing ? Admit it, if your country doesn't already have one, wouldn't it be improved by having a national spelling competition for schoolkids ?
And, just in case you're wondering, I'm writing this from Birmingham, West Midlands, not Birmingham, Alabama.

As an American i honestly do not believe were the best at everything, but i believe we do the best we can, just as other countries believe they are doing the best they can.I don't believe in dogging an entire country full of people just because of the actions of a few, that my friend is what causes wars and misunderstandings.I mean we did get our butts kicked in Football ( soccer for the Americans)

There is no problem in being proud of your country as long as you dont let pride take over and say that we are the best in the world. I believe that many nations have fallen because they have risen up and the leaders have said we are the best or we are more powerful than any other nation. Lord help us Americans if our leaders ever say we are the best in the world. May the Lord God bless you this day.

First of all The U.S. is a country. Last time I checked a piece of land has no real thought process so....you must be referring to the American people. Do you really think every American thinks that he or she is, as you put it "the best at everything"? Get real.

Great timing for your question - obviously the World Cup proves we're not best at everything! We don't think that. I have never met any American who thinks Americans are better than every other country at everything. Many of us are patriotic and very proud of our country, but that doesn't take away the achievements of other countries. Ignore rude responses you receive to this question - there are jerks in every nation.

The media and Hollywood....and of course very low education standards in most of the education system. Notice how very few make it to good Universities. The whole system is designed to produce middle class workers to keep the rich richer. When I was in grade school, believe it or not, my teacher asked me if Colombia was an island in Mexico!!
What else can you expect? I don't hate it however, I just pity a society so belittled by it's own power structures.

Oh, the US is not the only country that thinks so. Every major country in the world thinks that of itself. Even the tiny ones do.
Fortunately all countries have to put up with reality...
You're putting this question in the "Mythology and folklore" section on purpose, aren't you?
hahaha
