Why are the USA so useless at soccer?

I guess all the answers to this are from people from the USA, in the relatively short time your country has been playing soccer they have made great achievements.
Bear in mind not all Americans are man mountains... in American Football (which I Love) sometimes the fast slim guys make a play
Now back to football, and what is sport.. perhaps? and this is tongue in cheek not everyone in USA??? loves AFL
If you watch a sport/ any sport and enjoy ... why not.
I thought they, USA played very well the other night, worked hard played hard and what more can you armchair critics ask for.
If you criticise, get out buy a football and try and play the game, with your feet, not hands. Encourage your team they are carrying the flag of America where is your PATRIOTISM.
I am Scottish and my team did not even make the FINALS think hard on that . We , Scotland are a footballing nation, so who do we support?????

Because of the insular nature of the USA as a whole!

Most North Americans are not to concerned about what is happening outside of they city, state or region of the world as shown everyday on TV and the internet and by personal experience been over there a number of times.

The USA have "American Football" and other such 'strange' pastimes, which they seem so really enjoy for whatever reason!

The FIFA rankings have the USA right up the top now with the big boys of Internationalal football!

This is very welcome to see, hey North Americans drop the silly games with odd shape balls carried over lined grids etc and come and join the Internation event of football, enjoy the party!

They are certaily not useless - they have reached the world cup finals! USA has great popularity for Baseball, American Football and Basketball, soccer is not as popular as it is in some other countries where it is the major sport e.g. UK Brazil, Italy etc..

soccer is a "new" sport in the US, it's only been really popular for about 10 years. I'm 28 and when I was in school we didn't even have a soccer team. IT takes time to build up a talent base!

It's easier for an American nation to qualify for the world cup then a European one due to the way FIFA allocate places, hence the massages from the Irish and Scottish.

The USA don't like to play games where they might loose to another country, so they play insular sports, need I say more!

ok firstly we invented FOOTBALL before your cowardly version of rugby turned up, hence it being called "American football" and not just football

secondly America's fifa ranking is fake because of all the matches they play against crappy countries

thirdly, thats why they qualified, cos they have no real competition

and finally i wouldn't say they were useless, they lost 2 -0 to the czechs who are a good side its not the end of the world!

For a country where soccer is fairly new, I'd say the US has improved tremendously ... they're doing really well.
