because in today's society. the focus is all inwards and focused on ME instead of others. . as a result there is no concern for anyone else. its all about what can YOU do for me or what can I get.

I can't answer this question, there are so many reasons. People in general are much more selfish. Lifestyles have changed too, people are now more and more busy, less time for family. Actually that's an excuse, people MAKE less time for family. Another reason is no-fault divorce laws. Attorneys lobbied for this, now people can get a divorce without traditional grounds for divorce, like adultery or abuse. A divorce is much easier to get now with these laws.

My thoughts are that our society has continually allowed a breakdown of the family unit to evolve into a selfish society...everyone is out for number one...what happened to having your grandparents living with the family unit when they became older..they still have much to contribute to the family, in history, knowledge..but sadly that is not the case...it's become those who die with the the most toys wins...(why, you can't take them with you!) or it's all about "you"...

because people back then ezpecially women where dependent on their partners, they wouldn't live normal lives if they got separeated from their partners as their partners worked while they statyed at home to look after the kids, now every one is independent.
