As a music genre it is an emotionally charged form of music [in the family of punk and hardcore, I'd guess you'd say -- as much as it hurt to say that.]
Nowadays it's taken on a new meaning, it's an attitude; a way of being; a fashion statement.
There was this girl once that had a shirt that said "Emo girl" on the front, on the back it said "I like to cry." THAT is my definition of emo.

Emo (from emotional) is a slang term used to describe a wide range of fashion styles and attitudes somewhat affiliated with emo music and its related scenes. The word "emo" may be used as a noun to describe a member of the emo scene, or as an adjective to describe a certain style of fashion or music.
Emo music is hardcore so someone who is emo listens to hardcore punk or dresses in all black. It's the new goth.

no emo is not cool its just 14 year olds trying to be goths... goths are cool though they have true feelings about why they follow it.... emo's just like it cause its trendy
