Why do people think it's acceptable to crack a joke about me being skinny, which I find hurtful, but if I call them a fat tw@t in reply suddenly I'm the most evil person on this earth.

Insults are never equal. Beacuse everyone knows that it's easier to be fat than skinny. Jealously, that's all.

Why is it ok? It's not ok.

But then again, if you find other people's remarks hurtful why do you make hurtful remarks in return? In most cases, people who make nasty remarks about others in front of their peers are looking for a reaction from the subject. Don't react. Deny them that. They'll get bored and move on to another, probably easier target. Soon enough people will see them as the bully that they are.

It becomes hurtful if we let it hurt us. Saying "skinny" will not hurt everyone that is skinny but it will hurt the one that is bothered with being skinny so my advice to you...accept your body the way it and when people say you are skinny you can answer " thats pretty obvious" why dont you tell me something I dont know...ah ah ah

Verbal abuse is very hurtful.

Ignore them huni. You are what you are. Be proud of who you are. That goes for being, fat, thin, disabled etc.

What if the shoe was on the other foot? How would people react?

There are two reason for people to insult another. 1)to anger another 2)to respond to another insult. My suggestion is to brush it off. Try to not let to phase you. They will eventually lose interest if you don't respond to them. Last thing you want to do is Insult them back. That just creates a circle.

I think it all depends on how the "joke" is recieved and the person that is directed to. Just remember, no one person is the same. What is sweet to you may be poison to others.

people are self centred and don't give a crap what they say and if they hurt you, tell them your happy which is more than them, as they have to hurt you for them to feel good, chin up, love yourself and don't care what everyone says, theyre just nobody

It is not acceptable for people to pass hurtful comments.
They do it, but that does not mean that it is acceptable.
Why do you lower yourself to their level?
If it is wrong for them, surely it is wrong for you too.
