The best type of movie file will depend on different parameters...
If u wanna watch the movie file at the best quality then you should go for DVD files like *.vob
But if you are interested in just watching the movie and saving ur disk space i recommend mov files.....[provided the screen size is small]
If u want both quality and save the disk space then go for mpeg mpg files.......
You can even use DivX method to compress the file but with almost similar quality to that of mpg and mpeg.......
Nowadays DVD players along with the DivX supported format are available in the market........
After all it`s ur choice.........Bye..Tc.

AVI and MPEG give good quality for medium size at about 700 MB for a movie. MP4 is very low quality but small for phones and ipods etc. Mpeg2 is full DVD quality but big in size up to 8GB for a movie.

I keep my stuff on MPEG and AVI for my PC as it is goos enough if you want to watch an episode of your favourite tv programme during a break from work.

If you are watching animation such as simpsons or say a standup comedian where quality matters less then real player files (rm) are small but good enough to watch on an average size screen

Hey buddy each one got it's own merits.
Like mpeg offers good quality with higher bit rates.
Mov files are more compressed than any other format listed here.
It depends on ur choice but try to have a higher bit rate.
