just talk to him and tell him the exp of smokin, as a smoker, i knw no-one likes to smokes, or smokers, tell him its disadvantages in a friendly environment, tell him you are not proud for smokin and u always wants to giveup, and relate some stories that how smokin let u down in past, make some fakes if you dont have any,
most of all, tell him most gals dont like smokers
BUT
try first to talk to him without lettin him knw that you knw he smokes, like when u watch someone smokin in television start talkin about that,
because if suppose he continues to smokes, he might startin it infront of you.

To be fair you cant be hypocritical and say that the son cant do it when dad does, all you can do is explain that when Dad started we didnt know the damage it caused and the addiction that goes with it, should him some diseased lung pictures, take him to help in a hospice where people are dying of lung cancer...appeal to the father to stop and show by example. Good luck it wont be easy, neither my husband nor myself smoke but 3 of our 4 kids do in the end all you can do is present the facts and hope they dont do to much damage.

Well obviously you can't be angry at him, but maybe you could sit down and say that you are disappointed with him for taking up the habit, when he should know from his father that is is bad. Perhaps father and son could embark on a 'Quit' smoking regime together and spend some quality time together doing other fun stuff to take the cravings away.

I don't know. Tell them that he really doesn't want to end up like his father and have the mother make the talk. The father sounds like a dick no offense because this is all hypothetical. He should be setting good examples for his children. Make the father quit smoking too.

Your the parents and you rule the house...tell him to stop or be punished. Until he is an adult himself you have the last word. Don't allow him to intimidate you because the Father smokes.

when my son began smoking behind my back, i discouraged it and then told him- my rules- i won't buy your cigarettes even if you have money because its illegal for you to smoke. i won't allow you to smoke in my home- you have to go outside to smoke. although i don't smoke- my mom did when i was growing up, she discouraged it by telling us- i've tried to quit now since.... and its very hard to quit- you're better off not following in my footsteps and smoking- i would prefer it if you don't start- and if you have that you quit now while its still easy for you to do so.
