This could be due to malware. Try hitting ctrl+alt+del and getting in to taskmanager. Check if there is any program/service thats eating up your processor or memory. You could stop that process and then once you get in to the OS, run a spyware scan. (www.spywareguide.com).

I had the same problem somewhere I found out by pressing alt, ctrl, delete, it will bring the task manager up, it comes out, trying to get rid of a virus, by mistake I deleted explorer.exe it was a mess to bring it back, I had to reinstall, would not take the disk, gave me a number had to call on phone....................... any way, check if you have explorer.exe on processes in your task manager. if you dont maybe some one can e mail it to you but stupid me, I dont even know that will fix it thats just what happend to me. Best wishes.

ah, likely problem someone faces with spyware... well try to run your anti-spyware programs from your start menu,,, (ad-aware, webroot, anytime) then run the scan (a deep-inspectoin scan) after it has found all the things try to check on its list what it found look for a spyware name and if there is you might have gotten a spyware and its due to that... delete them all, restart system.
if it doesnt work try to go into safe modr(f8 during booting time) and run your scans doing that (run all your scan programs if you dont got one go to www.download.com and download anytype of anti-spyware.) and if that doesnt work i got 2 words REINSTALL WINDOWS
