Is'nt it ironic that in the United States, the only civilized country in the world where prostitution is illegal, America has the highest STD rate, the highest divorce rate, and the highest percentage of illigitimate children and single moms. How could legalized prostitution possibly make things worse than they already are? Also tell me one country in Europe, South America, or Asia (besides Muslim countries) where it is illegal.

In many western countries besides USA, prostitution is illegal in practice if not in theory.

For example in Canada prostitution is legal, but communicating for purposes of prostitution is illegal. And in practice this means that attractive female police officers in major Canadian cities often pose as prostitutes and arrest men who offer money for sex to them.

I think that widely available and easily obtainable sexual satisfaction for men decreases the sexual bargaining power of women in society. Such sexual control and power is very important to many women. And since the majority of voters are women, the government naturally represents their point of view.

Prostitution promotes adultery!!

Thats a good reason why its not legal in the United States, except for Nevada...(you forgot that State).

Sure, prostitution is legal in other Countries, and by being legal, if your wife was out of work, or another woman, say with kids, or just single, and they have an OPENING as a Prostitute....GUESS WHAT??? SHE HAS TO TAKE THE JOB!!!

OH YEA!! That is what happens in those "other Countries!!

Lemme see, in Germany, the prostitutes do thier thing...then, after a "good nights work", they go home to thier families...husband and kids! I dont want my wife to have to do that!!

The reason for divorce rates, is because the couple arent Christians, and havent been counceled before marriage. (which I believe everyone should go through, as an older adult would be able to guide a younger couple and see the pitfalls before the couples actually go throught them).

STD rates? Tell the "Johns" to wear protection...its all in the news, if people are so ignorant to avoid using them, then what can you do about that??? You can tell them til your blue in the face, but, if they dont practise it, then its thier fault. You cant FORCE everyone to use a condom...(yea its a shame, aint it?).

Illegitamate children are because people with little or less education promote more children because they cant get a job and support themselve, thus they have to 'find something else to do' and making babies is the easiest thing they know! (Its a proven fact, that the most children to unwed mothers, are from those who are in the lower education scale!).

I havent been to a lot of European Countries, except Germany, Norway, Holland, Spain, and Turkey, (all with the blessing of the Marine Corp).

So, I dont know enough about all the Countries to give you a good answer to where its not legal, for prostitution...

I wish you well..

Jesse

I never saw anything wrong with prostitution, if the pimps, and crack heads were removed! What goes on between a man and a woman is their own business! The only reason prostitution is illegal in America is because the government doesn't know how to make a profit on it yet! ( How are they gonna tax women when they are hopping from one car to another)! Also how can the government determine how much a woman made in any particular night?!!!

In Greece prostitution is legal. Although, what is not legal is to be an undeclared prostitute. Which means that should a woman want to be a prostitute, she should be registered as such to the authorities(police station and her district's health department) in order to be medically examined every month for STD. I dont think prostitution could do any harm in the US , because it is such a corrupted, disoriented society that legalizing prostitution would simply mean aknowledging its existence.

It is legal in the state of Nevada.
I do not think it would make things worse, I believe it could help a lot of young women and men out there if it was a legitimate business. The states could place professional guidelines to the profession and the women and men could have health insurance, regular check ups, costumers could be screened for any harmful attributes such as disease and intent to harm.

I question your statistics. I have a hard time believing that the U.S. has a higher STD rate than places like India and China, and especially AFRICA...

And, in fact, in certain regions of Nevada, prostitution is legal.

It would be fine by me... don't care either way as far as the impact on my life.

I suppose it could be safer for the prostitutes though... and they would have to pay taxes, which is a plus.

It should be done. Otherwise, prostitutes get away without paing taxes. That's just not fair!

they should legalize prostitution, but equate pimping with slavery, punishable with life imprisonment.
