Well, you gotta figure out why they don't want you to be an actor. It's very, very, very difficult to make a living as an actor, which is probably one of their reasons, if not their main one. Also, how badly do you want to become an actor? Do you live and breath the stuff, or do you feel you would die if you did anything except act? You gotta ask yourself these questions for you to know how to approach your family. Also, you can't really be shy if you're gonna be in the movies! You'll never get any parts that way, because no one's gonna notice you! So, figure out if this is just your temporary passion, or if this is truly all you want to do with your life. You'll know what to do then. Trust me, I've been there. And I had to make the same decision. It's tough, but you'll be glad once you've figured out what's right for you. Good luck!

Listen to your heart and mind both while taking a career decision. Do you think you are really that good at acting? Or do you have good looks, dance coolly and just wanna go in films coz it's your childhood dream?
Coz everyday, hundreds of youngsters come to Mumbai with the desire of becoming a film star; how many of them end up in a film( except extras)? You can count on your fingers the actors (currently working or debuting) who don't have their family in films or haven't been child actors.Think twice before you take a step towards Bollywood. Last but not the least, Best Of Luck!
P.S.- Know what? I too faced opposition from Dad while choosing a career; but I listened to him patiently, didn't fight, explained my side, and one day Dad came to me to tell he supported me. It could happen to you......if your choice MAKES SENSE TO THEM. So wish you luck in convincing too!

Have commitment towards what you want to do. Need some convincing for family. I am sure many families are averse to the whole idea (due to insecurity, bad name, long struggle).
If u really think u have a passion, first convince yourselves and then others. AFter all this the answer is yes, do not look back.

Might as well try it out or as Notorious Guy says... you just may spend the rest of life regreting it. But try and talk it out with your family and let them know how important it is to you. It will be a whole lot easier if you have their support.

If you want to be an actor, then you can be an actor. Never let anybody try to tell you that you can't, and have confidence in yourself. You'll need that confidence when it comes to landing any work in acting.

just be honest to them.look, its either u tell them, and pursue ur dream OR just hold back and Regret for the rest of ur life! think about it.. and u dont haf to feel shy,.. their ur family n dey shud understand u. besides, if u wanna bcum an actor, u cant be shy.,...unlesss camera shy o course. gluck n hope for the best! : )

when you first start out acting, it's hard to get paying work. so i suggest you go for acting but make sure that you work towards getting an eduaction that will allow for you to get a job in an unrelated field so that you can pay the bills until you can get regular pay for acting.
