Apparently my last question was misunderstood. So here I ask again:

Are you in favour of the govt.'s ban on smoking by actors or against it?

I am against it. You hear so much how if kids see them smoking they will smoke. Hogwash. I smoke and have four kids and 8 grandkids. Only 1 of the bunch smokes. I don't drink and none of them do. Actors don't make a person do anything. They are portraying a character, nothing more. If kids are taught that what they see on TV or the movies is not real, and parents were involved with that, whatever an actor did would not matter. Because we live in a world where everyone blames everyone else and is not held responsible for their actions, the governement takes over.

Why do we have to ban everything? People KNOW the dangers of smoking. If you don't, you've clearly been living under a rock for the last five decades. Why should the government need to intervene and ban smoking in films (or even worse, as one responder said, ban the ciggie companies)? Whatever happened to freedom of expression and freedom of person? Why is a large government entity better qualified to tell me what to do with my own body than me??

In case you couldn't tell, I am totally against this on all levels.

Are you referring to the actors in the film?

If so, that's ridiculous.

But, it's a hysteria that's enveloping the globe. I recently read of a movie being made about WWII and they did not show people smoking. That's going way too far because during WWII, most people smoked, especially soldiers. And, showing them otherwise is re-writing history.

Against it. Smoking by actors on film depicts a certain role and mirrors reality therefore it should be allowed.

The ban makes no sense practically. So wat if actors are not allowed to smoke in movies......off screen the actors and other public do so in reality.
If smoking is to be prohibited at all then get to the root of it.....BAN manufacturin of cigarettes.....When everyone knows that smokin Kills then why the hell to manufacture them.....
So wat if the actors are not shown smokin in movies...do u think that the public will stop smokin....i dont think so...those who want to smoke will smoke no matter what...
