Yes!

Check with the Better Business Bureau web site. http://www.bbb.org

Only do business with a web site that you went to on your own, NEVER buy from a spammer or any unsolicited email.

If you go to the web site of a known reputable company you know who you are dealing with.

If you do business with a spammer or buy from a link to an unknown website from a link in an unsolicited email you do not know who you are really dealing with even if the email appears to have came from a reputable company.

Install a phishing filter. Microsoft checks the site for you. It will also check for the certificates issued to the site.
