yes honesty is good policy but wisdom in marriage is more important. inicially avoid the topic for some time till you know each other well. If the partner is a person of understanding and intelegent then only tell otherwise this information will be used in future during arguments and fights which invariably take place even in happy marriges. Precaution is better than cure. so my advice is dont tell any such thing which may spoil your pleasant relations. By telling truth you will simply collect negative points for you, what use? talk good things and enjoy the marriage.

My father always told me, that honesty is the best policy. You and your partner must trust each other, and the past should be the past, therefore the past should be known, however not judged upon. Your partner might also admire your honesty.

Tell them that anything (if there was anything) before they came into your life is personal and that you see no good reason to share. It is not like you cheated on them. You weren't together with this person then.
